Why are you passionate about abortion care?

As a daughter of China’s One-Child Policy era, I was born in a time of a crisis for reproductive rights in China. At the same time that some families chose to abort children who were not sons, the state forced their neighbors to terminate a pregnancy. The structural limits placed on Chinese families and the clear violation of bodily autonomy is why I support reproductive justice. Abortion is just one part of that.

Why is funding abortion so important during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Funding abortion is always important, but it is more important than ever because crises like these exacerbate barriers to access and hit already marginalized groups the hardest. No one should be denied their bodily autonomy just because they lack the funds, transportation, child care etc. If they’re limited by those things, it’s not really a “choice” at all.
